Summary

Feline morbillivirus (FeMV) is an emerging member of morbillivirus discovered in 2012 and is a pathogenic paramyxovirus for cats discovered for the first time. Association of FeMV infection with cat's nephritis has been suggested, and roles of FeMV in kidney disease that cats often develop are drawing attention.

Our group reported the detection of feline morbillivirus for the first time in Japan. Furthermore, we statistically showed the relationship between cat morbillivirus and pathological changes in cat kidney tissues for the first time in the world. We are also conducting highly sensitive genetic tests and serological detection systems for clinical examination of cats.
